The University of Michigan is evacuating some students from Egypt among the unrest, and telling others to take precautions.
Two students studying at the University of Alexandria will leave the country on Friday. “We were a little disappointed,” said Nikhil Nandigam. He spoke to Action News through a Skype interview. He had arrived in Alexandria, Egypt’s second largest city, last month. He and the other student will be evacuated to Morocco at the end of the week.
Meanwhile, eight other students who are spending the summer at American University in Cairo will remain in the country. “I assure you we have full time staff who works this area closely monitoring,” said Rick Fitzgerald, a U of M spokesperson.
Fitzgerald said the situation is fluid and there isn’t specific criteria used to determine if an evacuation is necessary. The university evacuated students when Egyptian political unrest broke out in 2011.
