The Tucson Unified School District received a $465,000 grant from Qatar Foundation International to expand programs at two of its schools.
Cholla High Magnet School and Safford K-8 Magnet School will use the money to pay for more teachers and help grow the Arabic language programs at both schools, according to a TUSD news release.
Both schools have International Baccalaureate programs, with Arabic language classes offered as part of each school’s curriculum.
There are about 100 students at Cholla and 125 students at Safford who are enrolled in the classes.
TUSD officials want to increase enrollment to more than 400 students within the next five years.
