We’re learning more about the victim and the suspect in the murder of a Binghamton University professor. Anthropology professor Richard Antoun was stabbed to death in his campus office on Friday.
The suspect, Abdul-Salam Al-Zahrani, is charged with second degree murder. His two roommates describe him as argumentative, confrontational and say he threatened one of them with a knife.
They also say he blurted out that he wanted to “destroy the world.” Investigators say he claimed to be a Muslim.
Professor Antoun’s murder has shaken the Binghamton campus community.
“I thought it was really scary because one of those kids walked around campus with me and this is where I go to school. I called my mom right away and said I don’t feel comfortable here,” said freshman Jenna Scheir.
Police are trying to nail down a motive in the murder. Family members and colleagues described professor Antoun as a well-respected and peaceful man.
He wrote several books including one on Christian, Islamic and Jewish movements.
