The Minnesota Department of Education has until today to turn over documents related to its investigation of alleged teacher licensure violations at Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TiZA).
A Ramsey County District Court judge told the department this week to give TiZA copies of the records, said Department spokesman Randy Wanke. The department will comply, he said, adding that it has already provided licensure data to the school on at least four occasions.
State officials notified TiZA last month that they would recommend withholding $1.4 million in public funding because they said 14 of the school’s staff members lacked proper licenses. The school filed a lawsuit against the department last week, claiming that the department had failed to provide copies of all of the records that the school needs in order to defend itself as it appeals the decision.
TiZA, a charter school with locations in Inver Grove Heights and Blaine, is also battling the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota in court for allegedly blurring the line between public education and religion.
