Terrorism has reared its ugly head once again. This time the target was the Boston Marathon. Another attack on innocent civilians. More dead. More wounded. More families shattered.
And who is to blame?
Reasonable, intelligent people would put the responsibility firmly on the heads of the terrorists. Two brothers, motivated by a flawed understanding of Islam, committed the atrocity.
Unfortunately, United Nations official Richard Falk is not a reasonable, intelligent person. To Falk, it is not those who planted the bombs who are responsible for the carnage. According to Falk, special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories for the UN Human Rights Council (Yes, that such a job exists says a lot about the UN), the blame resides in “Tel Aviv.”
This is not the first time that Falk has crossed the line into the absurd, the anti-Israel, and the antisemitic. According to JTA, he said that the Bush administration was complicit in the 9/11 attacks. In addition, he has published antisemitic cartoons and called for a boycott of Israel. He clearly does not simply have a skewed view of history, but has lost all sense of reality.
Isn’t it time the United Nations rids itself of this noxious anti-Israel presence? He is an apologist for terrorism whose hatred for the West and Israel is obvious.
The United Nations has a long and undistinguished history of anti-Israel activity. Every year, resolution after resolution and session after session is devoted to delegitimizing Israel.
If UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon wants to change the United Nations from the organization which equated Zionism with racism and sponsored the notorious Durban Conference to one which plays a constructive role in the Middle East, he can start by seeing to it that Richard Falk gets his walking papers.
