New Forum Shares Mideast Perspective [on the Forum for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at New England College]

New England College students will have a new way of learning about the Middle East.

The college recently announced the formation of its Forum for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. The forum will offer lectures, workshops and presentations that will address the historical, ideological, political and cultural background of the Middle East.

The first lecture, on the U.S.-Iran relationship, was given by one of the forum’s founders, Ali Reza Jalili, associate professor of business and economics. In the future, Jalili hopes the forum will include a speakers bureau and will become a resource for providing background on current issues.

“We would like to provide the community . . . with an unbiased assessment of the Middle East and the Islamic world,” Jalili said. “The goal . . . is to create a bridge between the Middle East and the U.S. that fosters better understanding and communication between the two cultures.”
