Jytte Klausen, the Danish-born scholar whose new book has shaken Yale (before it’s even published), will speak on campus next week.
The Brandeis University political scientist’s October 1 lecture is titled “Blasphemy and Inquiry: The Cartoons That Shook the World.” That subtitle is also the title of Klausen’s book — to bereleased Monday by the Yale University Press — about the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that were published in a Danish newspaper in 2005, followed by violent protests worldwide.
Klausen has let it be known that she disagrees with Yale’s decision to pull the cartoons themselves from her book, and that she doesn’t believe that republishing them would be dangerous.
Her speech will follow a planned appearance by fellow Dane Kurt Westergaard, who drew one of the offending cartoons: the iconic turban-bomb caricature of Muhammad. Westergaard will speak at Branford College at 4 p.m.
