Jytte Klausen, the Brandeis political scientist whose book about the violence that followed a Danish newspaper’s publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad will be published this fall -- minus the cartoons -- by Yale University Press, told The Boston Globe that she understood Yale’s decision to cut the illustrations. The book, The Cartoons That Shook the World, will be published in November with an author’s note from Ms. Klausen, who told the Globe, “If I was an administrator at the university, I would have pulled the cartoons.” The press feared inciting more violence; the removal of the cartoons was condemned by the American Association of University Professors.
