A controversial charter school is moving ahead with plans to expand.
The Inver Grove Heights City Council unanimously approved a 9,500-foot expansion plan at Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, or TiZA.
The expansion would add seven classrooms, office space, and a new entrance to the school that is geared towards Muslim children.
TiZA came under fire earlier this year from the Minnesota Department of Education.
The state told the school to change the way it holds prayer services and provide rides to kids who do not stay for after-school programs.
