Philadelphia – The Middle East Forum announces the appointment of Brooke Goldstein as director of the Legal Project, established in June 2007.
The Project’s mission is to protect researchers and analysts working on the topics of terrorism, terrorist funding, and Islamism against those who seek to silence them through intimidation, defamation, and predatory lawsuits – what is sometimes known as “lawfare.”
Ms Goldstein, a New York-based attorney, studied at McGill University and received her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. She also studied at Oxford University, the University of Toronto, and Columbia University.
The 2007 recipient of the Nathaniel E. Gates Award for outstanding academic work or public advocacy, Ms Goldstein is an adjunct fellow at the Hudson Institute and directs the Children’s Rights Institute.
To increase public awareness of human rights violations against women and children, Ms Goldstein co-founded the documentary film production company “A2B Films.” Her first film, The Making of a Martyr, explores the incitement and recruitment of child suicide bombers and received the Audience Choice Award for Best Film at the 2006 United Nations Documentary Film Festival.
Forum director Daniel Pipes welcomed Ms Goldstein, noting that “Brooke has already made a name for herself as an advocate. We are delighted to join forces with her to protect the freedom of public speech of a very key group of people.”
