Minneapolis City Councilor Jamal Osman made hateful comments about Jews and gays on Facebook between 2011 and 2013. He called Israelis "dogs" and praised Hitler. The Minneapolis Reformer reports that Osman has since apologized for making the now-deleted statements. Osman, who was elected to City Council in 2020 is up for reelection in 2023. Yunus Paisner, a lawyer from Portland, Oregon, has established a new group called “Shariah Defense,” to protect the rights of Muslims in the United States from attacks by what he calls the “LGBT Monster.” He is doing this work under the tutelage of Karim Abu Zaid, a prominent Salafist in Colorado who praised the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
