Mitchell committs to Bush 2004 letter; could affect “settlements freeze”

Ha’aretz reported that Obama’s Mideast envoy George “Mitchell told Israeli officials [on January 30] that the new administration was committed to...the 2004 letter by president George W. Bush stating Palestinian refugees would not return to Israel and the border between Israel and the Palestinian Authority would take into consideration facts on the ground, meaning large settlement blocs would remain in Israeli hands.” This may have implications for Mitchell’s approach to the “settlements freeze” demanded by the Roadmap, as I explained in “Obama and a Settlements Freeze.”
