A Halifax city councillor thinks the city may need new recreation policies for accommodating specific groups of people.
Steve Craig says his concerns stem from the closure of a women’s only gym at the Sackville Sports Stadium.
The move upset the women who use the space and they say they weren’t consulted about the change.
Last week, Craig introduced a petition signed by 100 members.
Craig thinks the issue has broader implications because of cultural considerations.
“If you’re a Muslim lady, you’re not to co-mingle and can’t go in a swimming pool with men, you’ve got to respect that,” he said.
Craig will be asking for a review at Tuesday’s regional council meeting.
