Halal meat back on menu

Halal meat is back on the menu at Luton Sixth Form College this term.

Halal dishes were temporarily withdrawn from the college’s Westside Restaurant in May as a precautionary measure after concerns were raised by the Luton Council of Mosques about how meat was certified. The college has now sourced new suppliers approved by the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC), an independent organisation whose main aim is to certify the production of genuine Halal food.

Head of catering at the college Kay Stott said: “We are now certified by the HMC and will have someone from the mosque come in monthly to do the necessary checks and give us an authorisation stamp. Both Halal and non-Halal meat options, as well as vegetarian dishes, will now be available in our restaurant.”
