Trojan Horse whistleblowers were given written assurance from the Government that their identities would be kept secret, The Telegraph has learnt.

The revelation comes as pressure mounts on the Education Secretary Justine Greening to intervene and guarantee the anonymity of the teachers.

Officials from the Department for Education's (DfE) Due Diligence and Counter Extremism Division assured teachers who exposed the scandal when they first came forward with their concerns in February 2014 that they are "familiar" with dealing with "confidential subjects".
