Excerpt:
I've had a drawn-out Twitter exchange recently about the importance of the hijab for Muslim women.
The hijab is the headscarf worn by some Muslim women to denote piety and modesty. The debate focused on an article co-authored by Sun columnist Tarek Fatah and I entitled Muslims are not required to cover up, published in The Globe and Mail back in 2007.
Even non-Muslims took issue with our claims. But before I proceed, I must stress that while I propose a ban on the niqab because it has become a security issue and hides faces, I have been a little more tolerant of the hijab.
