Columbus is establishing a legal-defense fund for immigrants facing deportation.

The City Council voted on Monday to distribute $185,000 to three organizations that will provide legal services to immigrants and their families. The Vera Institute of Justice is providing an additional $100,000 that the institute will allocate.


The Council on American-Islamic Relations will receive $17,500, and Catholic Social Services' Our Lady of Guadalupe Center will receive $10,000 for "legal services that help keep families together in the central Ohio immigrant and refugee communities."
