The Islamic Center of America is asking worshipers to wear purple during Friday prayers this week and share pictures of themselves on social media to raise awareness of domestic violence.
The campaign is one of several events the mosque has held around the topic, said Kassem Allie, executive administrator of the center.
"We've done a number of workshops and different awareness events. ... Really, it's to inform the public and offer resources to those who, perhaps, know of someone in a domestic violence situation, and to really kind of remove the stigma from domestic violence and allow people to bring it out in the open," Allie said.
