Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said that he would do everything he can to prevent a President Trump from banning Muslims from entering the country.

"As a United States senator, I will do everything in my power to make sure that absurd, hateful proposal never occurs," he said on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show" Friday.

Sanders laughed when Maddow pointed out that the newly elected mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, would not be allowed in the country under Trump's temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S. But he said on a serious note that "of course" Trump's rise to becoming the GOP's presumptive nominee has hurt the country.
