A dossier of new Tower Hamlets vote-rigging allegations is expected to be handed to Scotland Yard today as the re-run of the mayoral election is plunged deeper into controversy.

Claims of election fraud and financial fraud are due to be handed to Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe today ahead of the vote on Thursday.

Detectives are assessing 16 allegations of electoral malpractice, including the harvesting of postal votes, use of "ghost" voters and improper distribution of election literature.
