Victorians are polarised by a suggestion to ban the burka, results from the ABC's online survey Vote Compass indicate.

While a majority of Victorians - 51 per cent - disagreed with banning the burka; the two most popular responses were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Thirty-six per cent of respondents strongly disagreed with banning the burqa while 22 per cent strongly agreed with a ban.
