A London woman who survived female genital mutilation warned it is still being carried out because people are "too British" to discuss it.

Nimco Ali was taken to Somalia for the procedure when she was seven years old, and warned that  thousands of London girls are still at risk because people are too embarrassed to talk about it.

Her comments came after the Evening Standard revealed that experts are calling for London schools to start teaching children about the subject.
