A female-only swim went ahead at the YMCA as planned on Sunday, a week after organizers cancelled the event out of concern for the participants' safety.
The YMCA has been holding the female-only swims in its pool since May 5, but decided to cancel last Sunday's dip after receiving vocal opposition, including what police described as a threat that 50 men would attend the swim and "take over" the pool.
"We've had no incidents, no phone calls. Nothing," said Kim Caruso, CEO of the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA, part way through Sunday's noon-hour swim. "Hopefully, we're back to business as usual."
