Germany cannot possibly deport the estimated 250,000 failed asylum seekers who have entered the nation, Bavaria's leader has claimed.
Horst Seehofer, who leads Merkel's sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU), said it was much more humane for European states to protect their borders and decide immediately whether to allow migrants entry into their nation.
The right-wing politician added that once hopeful asylum seekers had entered their country, it was "almost impossible" to send them back home.
