Evidence files on two new cases of suspected female genital mutilation have been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service by detectives seeking the first ever charges for the crime in this country.
The CPS said the new allegations meant it was now considering eight separate cases involving either alleged "cutting" or other forms of mutilation.
Four cases previously deemed to contain insufficient grounds for a prosecution are now being reconsidered as part of a drive to bring perpetrators to justice.
