The Muslim Student Association wants to teach others about Muslims and the Islamic faith through its Islam Awareness Week on campus, and will host events throughout the week.
"The purpose is to educate people on Islam and Muslims," said Iesha Kincaid, president of the Muslim Student Association. "There are a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions out there, so we hope to show what Islam is really about and get rid of some of those stereotypes and misconceptions."
Kincaid said some of the misconceptions of Islam make people think it is nothing more than terrorism, oppression among women, disliking America and the Prophet Muhammad portrayed as a war lord.
