University of Oklahoma students now have the option to earn a bachelor’s degree in Arabic studies.
The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education approved the degree program Thursday, making OU the first public college or university in Oklahoma to offer a degree in Arabic studies, said Houston Davis, vice chancellor for academic affairs for the state regents.
The program is designed to train students in Arabic language, cultures and literature. The university does not have to add any courses for the degree program, Davis said. He said students will be encouraged to study abroad in an Arabic-speaking country.
