Prosecutors Bar 3 Jaber Witnesses [Trial of Former Arkansas Grad Student]

FAYETTEVILLE — Federal prosecutors filed motions Tuesday to exclude three expert defense witnesses in the trial of a former University of Arkansas at Fayetteville graduate student accused of supporting a terrorist organization.

Assistant U. S. Attorney Wendy Johnson filed motions to exclude witnesses in the trial of Arwah J. Jaber of Fayetteville. Those witnesses — Frank Anderson, Hakam Takash and Ted Swedenberg — were described in court documents as being experts in Palestinian history and culture.

Jaber is scheduled to stand trial Monday in U. S. District Court in Fayetteville on charges of trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, making a false statement on a naturalization application, making a false statement on a passport application, using a false Social Security number and procurement of naturalization unlawfully.

Attorneys for the government allege the three witnesses are not relevant to the case and should not be able to testify.

Jaber is accused of planning to leave his home in Fayetteville to join the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization in its fight against Israel. He has pleaded innocent to all charges.
