Lawyer For Accused Prof Scoffs At Evidence [on Hassan Diab]

The lawyer for an Ottawa university professor facing extradition in a 1980 Paris bombing says French evidence against his client is “non-existent.”

Lawyer Rene Duval made the comment after an Ontario Superior Court judge lifted a publication ban on the hearing and unsealed evidence offered by the French government

Hassan Diab, a part-time sociology professor, was arrested by the RCMP last week at the request of France in connection with a terrorist bombing that killed four people.

The 55-year-old faces charges of murder and attempted murder.

Duval says most of the French evidence is based on hearsay and “unreliable” statements.

Diab has been in custody since his arrest and is seeking bail as part of the extradition process.
