Christianity vs. Islam?

The Texas Board of Education has adopted a resolution curtailing references to Islam in all textbooks in the state.

Last week, the board was debating Pro-Islamic, Anti-Christian sentiment in our textbooks, and some conservatives wanted an appropriate resolution to go before the board.

Today, it passed on a seven-to-six vote.

The resolution will not be binding, but some people are saying this is all just a publicity stunt to promote intolerance

The resolution calls for textbook publishers to limit the amount of Islamic influence in World History Books.

Critics say it’s just another example of the state trying to push politics into public education.

“It’s not right, they should not be politicizing education materials that we’re giving student that is not correct. We need to be factually accurate, we need to present things in a fair and well balanced way - I don’t think that this resolution does that,” said Bob Craig, District 51 State Board of Education.

Craig did vote against the resolution, and said he felt the question needed to state that all religions should be treated fairly -- but that amendment failed.

He also says the way the resolution reads now has the feel of a “Christianity versus Islam” tone -- putting those religions against one another.
